SFs rescue kidnapped girls


IMPHAL, Mar 9 : Troops of 34 Assam Rifles under 9 Sector along with Thoubal police launched an operation and rescued two kidnapped girls from suspected KCP (MC) (Nando faction) cadres from Khangabok, said a statement issued by the PRO of Assam Rifles today. Identifying the two girls as Angom Asha Devi (22) daughter of Ningdan Singh and Koijam Premavati Devi (19) daughter of (L) Kesho Singh of Moirang, the PRO said that they were rescued from the custody of suspected KCP (MC) (Nando faction) on March 5. Giving details, the statement said that following inputs that the girls were being taken to Khangabok market, the combined team launched a search operation and the girls were rescued from the kidnappers. The kidnappers however managed to escape, claimed the PRO and added that the rescue team exercised restrain to avoid collateral damages.The girls were handed over to their parents in the presence of representatives of 34 Assam Rifles, Thoubal police and meira paibis today at 11.30 am.The parents have thanked the AR and Thoubal police for rescuing their daughters, added the statement.

Another NE girl raped in Gurgaon

New Delhi, Jan 2: The year 2008 ended with shock following the rape of a 22 year old Assamese girl in IT hub city Gurgaon, National Capital Region on December 30 night.The fact finding team led by NE Support Centre & Helpline’s spokesperson, Mr Madhu Chandra, member Dr Alana Golmei, social activist along with two leaders from Jagori—Ms Nilansu Dutta and Priti— rushed to the victim as soon the incident was reported early morning on Wednesday.The women members of the fact finding team, met the victim and provided trauma counselling and latter took her to Sector 40 Police Station Gurgaon, Haryana to lodge a complaint.After registering FIR No. 325 under section 376 of Indian Penal Code the rapist has been arrested by the police.Revealing the trauma, the victim maintained that Mr Manish, a resident of Greenwood, Sector 40, Gurgaon promised her to give a job in a friend’s house as a domestic help.However, instead of taking her to the family where she was promised to work as a domestic help, Mr Manish took her to his resident at around 8 pm on December 30, the girl said, adding she was offered juice that was mixed with some intoxicant and was raped repeatedly throughout the night.The victim further said, “I was forced to wear revealing tight dressed and he took picture of me.”At early morning, she was taken to another place and left in an unknown place and latter she managed to return to her residence at Sikandrapur, Gurgaon.After filing the complaint, police took her to Government Hospital at Gurgaon for medical examination.While the North East communities in Delhi and NCR were still feeling it hard to imagine the previous case of two girls being molested in Gurgaon recently, this incident of rape case that occurred in the same city has only added fuel to the people’s sense of being discriminated on racial and regional basis.

Kwakta tense after UGs-villagers clash


Tension reigned at Kwakta Ukha Tampak in Bishnupur district following the killing of at least two persons and injuries inflicted on four others besides five houses being razed to the ground as violence erupted between two groups of people (belonging to different communities) late last evening. The violence between the two groups erupted at around 8.30 pm yesterday at Kwakta Ukha Tampak after two persons were shot and injured by armed persons suspected to be from a militant group of a particular community. Following this, an irate mob formed by the community the victims belong to burnt down five houses belonging to the community to which the armed cadres hail from. According to one Pc Boisi, a resident of Ukha Tampak, though she heard some noises that evening, she could not figure out what was going on. Later, she rushed out of her house after realizing that some nearby houses were in flames and it was then that she came across a huge number of people, most of them from another community, said Boisi. The mob however left the place after setting ablaze the houses, she added. She revealed that out of the five houses, one of the owners of the house identified as one Manglam Hao- kip, 45, was charred to death and added that soon after that the community living in the area fled from there homesteads. On the other hand, according to one Ibetombi, 20, who claimed to be the first victim to encounter the armed persons revealed that on sighting some persons beating up some kids she approached the armed persons to enquire what was happening.

MSAD condemns molestation

Manipur Students’ Assn, Delhi (MSAD) has also strongly condemned the incident of assault after molestation of two Manipuri girls by the landlord and his son at Gurgaon on Decembee 13.In a statement issued by its Human Rights Committee and Women Committee, the student body also shared the pain and trauma of two girls from Manipur. Descri-bing the conduct of the landlord and his son towards their tenants as ‘barbaric’, the statement said that the intention of the woman members of the landl-ord’s family who become a party in disgracing the mo- desty of their own gender have shown patronage towards crime against women. The student body also decried the conduct of the police personnel in handling the case.
